Surrey Festival Walk
I want to do something to mark my 60th birthday in a different way and raise some money for charity. My wife suggested that I should run the London marathon, although this was a good idea I wanted to try something unique. So I came up with the idea of walking around the 11 Masonic Halls within the Province of Surrey, to raise money for the 2008 Festival.
I obtained the addresses of the centres and put the details into Mapquest and was somewhat surprised to see the proposed journey was some 120 miles. I knew that I would need help, but who to approach?
I bumped into W.Bro Dr Paddy Johnson and told him of my idea and asked whether he would consider being part of my back up team. He immediately suggested that the best way of helping me was to have me committed to a mental institution but after I assured him of my near stable sanity he agreed to assist me. The next person that I approached was my old friend W.Bro Lawrence Day, who straight away gave me his support. I then floated the idea with one or two people to gauge their reactions and all were encouraging.
There was one other person that I needed to get on board but I had to wait until he came back from holiday and that was my old friend W.Bro Colin Palmer. On his return I explained my idea and he readily offered his very able technical assistance.
Through the help of W.Bro Marcus Padman in my own lodge, The Lodge of Remembrance 6188, he constructed our own web site which will also be linked to Province and the Blog.
So all I need now is your help. I need all the sponsorship that I can get. Not only do I need individual sponsorship but if any lodge wishes to sponsor me whatever amount pledged will be donated to the 2008 Festival in that lodge’s name.
This event is not about me or about the Lodge of Remembrance. It is about raising money for the 2008 Festival.
